Indoor Air Quality

WHAT IS INDOOR AIR QUALITY?

According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), indoor air is seven times more polluted than outdoor air. It can contain harmful particles. Some of them can build up inside your home, such as mold spores, pet dander, dust, or tobacco smoke. Others can come from the outside, including pesticides, pollen, and other allergens or pollutants. Poor air quality can take a toll on your health. Exposure to high levels of indoor pollutants can increase your risk of developing respiratory diseases like asthma, COPD, or even certain types of cancer. Young children, the elderly, and pets are particularly vulnerable to poor IAQ.

Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) Solutions

At Schwantes Heating and Air Conditioning, we take the time to help you understand many of the factors that affect indoor air quality. We can help identify specific air quality problems and offer solutions throughout areas of your home or business.

Indoor Air Quality solutions include:

Air Filtering – Air filtering is generally the most important factor in improving your indoor air quality. Whether you have a good passive air filter or a more efficient electronic air cleaner, each provides a good start in helping to remove indoor contaminants and allergens that can cause problems in your home. At the same time, air cleaners provide protection for the HVAC equipment, extending service life and cutting down on repair work and unwanted service failures. We are proud to offer filtering products from Aprilaire, Honeywell, and Trane.

UV Air Purification – Another aspect of indoor air quality is air purification. UV air purifiers help eliminate and render contaminants like bacteria, mold, and viruses inert in your home. Many of these products also have a mechanism that allows your filters to effectively capture more particulates allowing for more and better breathable air. We recommend purification products like the REME HALO, REME LED from RGF Environmental, and the iWAV-R from Nu-Calgon.

Fresh Air Ventilation and Air Exchange – Now, more than ever, fresh, clean air is essential to a healthy home. Good indoor air quality means there is just the right amount of humidity and low amounts of harmful chemicals, smoke, and particles in the air. Air exchange allows for the free flow of fresh air to your home and the removal of indoor contaminants. We recommend products from Broan Fresh Air Systems, Renewaire, and Trane.

Whole Home Humidity Control – Battle dryness with a whole-house humidifier. It can balance your home’s humidity to help improve sleep and dry skin, enhance productivity, and keep you protected against airborne viruses. Additionally, humidifiers help protect your home and any contents against dry conditions that could cause cracking, warping, or other damage due to overly dry conditions. At Schwantes, we recommend Aprilaire Humidifiers.

Whole–House Dehumidification – Attack high humidity with a whole-house dehumidifier. These units help balance your home’s humidity by reducing mold and mildew-causing moisture, which in turn helps protect you against the harmful effects of allergies and asthma symptoms. These units are perfect in basements, crawl spaces, and other high-humidity areas but can help with excess humidity levels across your entire home. Again, we recommend whole-home dehumidifiers from Aprilaire.
